Bumula MP Wamboka Files Notice Of Motion To Impeach Agriculture CS Linturi
Bumula Member of Parliament Jack Wamboka has written to the National Assembly Speaker notifying them of his intention to file a motion to impeach Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi.
MP Wamboka, addressing the press at Parliament buildings on Thursday, said at least 110 fellow legislators had already appended their signatures in support of the motion.
He accused CS Linturi of what he termed as overseeing “criminal activities” in the ministry following last year’s sugar scandal and this year’s protracted fertilizer saga that elicited public anger.
The lawmaker hence opined that the public has since lost trust in Linturi’s ability to steer the ministry in the right direction, further calling on President William Ruto to relieve the CS of duty lest he derails the government’s agenda.
“You are all aware of the fertilizer scandal, and this is not the first time we have had a scandal around him; we had the sugar scandal where sugar unfit for human consumption was imported and released to the public,” said MP Wamboka.
“The motion is rooted in allegations of gross misconduct and loss of public trust. There is potential of criminal activities in the Ministry of Agriculture under the leadership of Linturi…it has shaken public trust in the agriculture sector.”

He added: “We presented our motion yesterday, backed by signatures of 110 MPs. We hope to discuss this motion soonest, by Tuesday next week we should be done with Linturi. I am also asking the President, agriculture is key, please don’t allow one rogue minister to derail your agenda, take action.”
Laikipia North MP Sarah Korere, who seconded the motion, urged CS Linturi to step aside and pave the way for investigations to be conducted into the fertilizer scandal, or sit tight and wait to be hounded out of office through Parliament.
MP Korere said the motion only has the interests of Kenyans at heart, adding that it is not politically instigated.
She further went ahead to claim that Linturi is not qualified to hold such an office, and should never have been cleared after vetting in the first place.
“Kama Bunge tunamuomba Mithika ajibandue kabla hatujambandua, apeane njia uchunguzi ufanywe. Sijui kwa nini anakatalia kwa ofisi,” she said.
“Hapa tunamsaidia rais, kama wafisadi wataingia kwa hiyo sekta rais hatatekeleza ahadi yake. We have enough grounds to impeach Linturi he wasn’t even fit to hold this office. Hii ni motion ya Wakenya, it’s a moral question, it’s not an Azimio or Kenya Kwanza issue.”
