British Couple Rattled by Kenyan Scorpion Which Survived 6,000 Miles Journey

A British family was left horrified after discovering a scorpion in their kitchen, its tail trembling, believed to have tagged along the 6,000-mile trip with them from Kenya.

The incident occurred when Ian and Liz Burrows, aged 52 and 50 respectively, along with their 18-year-old daughter Daisy, returned home to find the scorpion lying in the middle of the floor.

Burrows family, residing in Northampton, a town in the Eastern part of England, suspects that the scorpion might have sneaked back with Daisy, following their month-long trip in Kenya, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

It is estimated that the scorpion might have been scampering around the couple’s home for the past two weeks.

“The family currently doesn’t know the species but after carrying out some online research have suggested it could be a striped back scorpion or a pygmy thick tail. The venom in the stings from these types of scorpion is rarely deadly but can be very painful, and in some cases dangerous,” the Daily Mail reported.

When the family first discovered the scorpion at their home in England, Daisy initially mistook it for a leaf.

However, she soon realized that it was a scorpion. After examining the creature closely, Daisy recognized it from her travels, which led the couple to believe that it might have been hidden in their luggage during their return journey to the UK.

Daisy promptly informed her father, who scooped it up and placed it in a jar.

According to Burrows, their family had never encountered a scorpion before, leading them to believe that the arachnid had indeed hitched a 6,000-mile trip back with them from Kenya.

Mrs. Burrows apparently wanted to get rid of the scorpion straight away but her husband wanted to keep it.

‘I think my neighbors are quite anxious that we have a scorpion in the house.’

‘I’m just hoping it doesn’t have any other friends,” Mrs. Burrows stated.

“We’d been out and got home and I went to the fridge and it was just in front of it on the floor,” Mrs Burrows told Daily Mail.

Venom from a striped back scorpion or a pygmy thick tail is considered poisonous, dangerous and in some instances deadly.
