Boda Boda Association Addresses State House Bike Giveaway
The Boda Boda Association of Kenya has dismissed reports that youths who attended President William Rutoโs recent youth empowerment forum at State House, Nairobi, were denied motorcycles.
Speaking on Monday, August 8, Association President Kelvin Mmbadi rubbished the allegations spreading online, calling them false, misleading, and politically motivated.
Mmbadi clarified that before the State House event, boda boda groups had already agreed on which members would receive motorcycles. Once the selected names were submitted, those individuals were issued the bikes during the forum.
โOn that day, fewer than 200 motorcycles were available, yet over 6,000 riders attended. It was impossible for everyone to get one. Only those whose names had been agreed upon earlier were given motorcycles,โ Mmbadi explained.

The youth empowerment forum, held on Wednesday, August 13, sparked online debate after some individuals claimed that the motorcycles displayed at the event were not delivered to beneficiaries.
Presidential aide Dennis Itumbi also dismissed the accusations, noting that the motorcycles were allocated to groups and collected by their respective chairpersonsโnot individuals.
โOnly group leaders were allowed to pick the motorcycles. That was the official process. The talk of deceit is false. Another phase of Nairobi Youth Empowerment will follow soon,โ Itumbi said.
After the event, many young people were seen leaving State House cheering and expressing gratitude to President Ruto for supporting their hustles.
State House Director of Public Communication, Gerald Bitok, confirmed the distribution, saying, โAnother batch of boda boda empowerment motorcycles courtesy of President William Ruto has left State House, Nairobi.โ
