Bishop Muheria Blasts Ruto’s ‘Noise and Nonsense’ Government—Says Kenyans Need Action, Not Empty Promises

Nyeri Archbishop Anthony Muheria has called on President William Ruto’s administration to cut back on public advertisements and prioritize real development.

Speaking on Friday, February 21, Bishop Muheria expressed concern over the government’s excessive focus on self-promotion instead of tangible action.

“There needs to be less talk and more action. The government is overly invested in advertising itself, its projects, and its plans,” he said.

“Government is not a marketing agency—it exists to implement policies and deliver services. That’s what Kenyans need to see,” he added.

Ruto has faced criticism for making numerous promises about infrastructure projects across the country. However, there are concerns that these pledges often fade once he leaves the podium.

“Stop promoting what should be done or what has been done. Instead, channel energy into mobilizing people, resources, and expertise. We have capable leaders who can deliver, especially for the poor,” Muheria emphasized.

The government quickly responded to his remarks at the burial of Mzee Kingi Mwaruwa Mkweha, father of Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, in Kilifi County.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi defended the administration’s communication efforts, stating, “The government must inform Kenyans about its activities to ensure transparency and prevent misunderstandings.”

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula echoed this sentiment, saying, “As a government, we have a duty to keep the public informed—from Vanga to Lokichogio, Malaba to Lamu. Mr. President, keep blowing your trumpet.”

On Thursday, Ruto showcased his deep knowledge of Kenya’s road network, listing routes across different regions in a speech that quickly went viral. His detailed breakdown of road projects in northern Kenya became an internet sensation, with TikTok users remixing his speech into catchy beats and dance challenges.

“I know these roads well—not just in my backyard but across the country. That’s my job, and it’s the job I applied for,” Ruto said.

Despite the government’s defense, Bishop Muheria insisted that action must take precedence over words.

“I wish we could serve the people instead of engaging in endless publicity, noise, and insults. Let’s build, collaborate, recognize expertise, and make real progress,” he urged.
