Azimio PG Meeting Resolutely Commits to Kenya Kwanza Talks

To break the current political impasse that is plaguing the nation, the opposition coalition Azimio la Umoja One Kenya has stated unequivocally that it will continue to engage in dialogue with the administration of Kenya Kwanza, which is now in power.

The decision was made by Azimio on Tuesday during a meeting of the Parliamentary Group that was presided over by Raila Odinga, the head of the coalition. The meeting was conducted at the offices of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation (JOOF).

In addition, the political faction belonging to the opposition agreed to back the five-person delegation that was announced on Monday to engage in dialogue with the Kenya Kwanza team. The delegation will be led by Kalonzo Musyoka, who is the leader of the Wiper party.

Other members of the Azimio discussion team were present during the PG meeting. These individuals include Eugene Wamalwa, the leader of the DAP-Kenya party; Opiyo Wandayi, the leader of the National Assembly Minority; Okong’o Omogeni, the senator for Nyamira; and Amina Mnyazi, the member of parliament for Malindi.

The meeting that was led by Odinga and attended by at least 65 opposition-allied MPs was also attended by former Murang’a Governor and Usawa Party leader Mwangi Wa Iria, the leader of the Roots Party, George Wajackoya; former Agriculture CS Peter Munya; embattled Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni; and former Laikipia Governor Nderitu Murithi.

Ahead of the start of the negotiations, the Azimio coalition emphasized that no party should say that it can decide for the other which subjects may be brought up and which ones cannot be brought up. This was a condition that the coalition placed on itself.

Some of the topics that the Azimio delegation intends to discuss include the high cost of living, a review of the General Election in 2022, and the bipartisan reorganization of the IEBC.

Respect for political parties in conformity with the Constitution and inclusiveness in governmental affairs are two more issues that need to be addressed.
