Azimio Leaders Call for Rejection of 2024 Finance Bill, Threaten Mass Protests
Leaders of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party are urging all Members of Parliament to reject the Finance Bill 2024, labeling it as punitive and claiming it includes taxes that will make life unbearable.
Spearheaded by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, the coalition leaders warned the government to withdraw the Bill or face nationwide mass demonstrations in opposition to the proposed law.
During a visit to demolition victims in Kamukunji Constituency in Nairobi on Saturday, the opposition leaders urged all their MPs to vote against the Bill when it is presented in the House for voting.
“All our MPs, you have been instructed to vote No…This is the time to stand with your people,” stated Kalonzo.
Azimio argues that passing the Finance Bill 2024 will exacerbate the already difficult economic conditions in the country.
“We have repeatedly told Ruto to stop burdening Kenyans with taxes, but he has refused to listen,” Kalonzo remarked.

Former Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa emphasized: “We urge our MPs to be the last line of defense for these impoverished Kenyans…please vote No!”
The group is now threatening to initiate nationwide mass protests to oppose the Bill, which has already undergone public participation.
“Kile kitu hii serikali ya Kenya Kwisha inasikia ni maandamano, hakuna kitu ingine,” said Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni.
“Roundi hii tukiitisha maandamano, mtatoka Nyeri, Murang’a hadi Kitui…mtatoka Kapsabet na Kisumu tuambie Ruto aende nyumbani,” Kalonzo added.
The Azimio leaders also criticized the ongoing demolitions in parts of Nairobi that have left many people homeless.
“We will not allow our people to be evicted from their homes arbitrarily,” Kalonzo warned.
Wamalwa added: “The law requires that when demolishing homes, there must be adequate notice and alternative housing provided.”
