Azimio is intact! Kioni says after reports of a new political outfit
Embattled Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has insisted that the Azimio – One Kenya Alliance remains intact.
Speaking on Friday, Kioni who was responding to claims that Mt Kenya leaders in Azimio were fronting a new political outfit called Kamwene Leadership Forum said the opposition was more intact than many would want to believe.
He said the Kamwene outfit has always been holding meetings, and it was now his turn to host them at the Jubilee offices.
“We are in Azimio. Azimio is very intact and I’m sure it is more intact than many would want to believe or would be happy to hear. We talked about Kamwene this week where I was the host at Jubilee. We have had many meetings some at Narc Kenya,” Kioni said.
The reports of a political outfit came after they held a press brief following a Kamwene meeting on Tuesday.
Kioni further explained that Kamwene means “talking about your own issues; sisi kwanza tuongee yetu kabla kupeleka korokoro zetu kwa wengine (we talk about our issues first before we take them to other people)”.

He said people are moving away from the ruling party but are joining the Opposition outfit and one of the ways they are giving the people direction is through the Kamwene Leadership Forum.
Kioni said the outfit is for everyone from the Mt Kenya region.
“Clearly, people have moved from UDA, but they are not coming to Azimio. They are there like Israelites and we cannot allow them to wander for 40 years. We must quickly give them direction and Kamwene is just one of the things you’ll be hearing. It is not meant for anybody, it is for everybody.
“In our last meeting we had businessmen who came over and said it is true we must start talking about our own issues,” the Jubilee SG said.
Tuesday’s Kamwene meeting was largely interpreted as the Mt Kenya faction of Azimio finding their way out.
There have been reports of discomfort within Azimio after Mt Kenya leaders in the outfit were not picked to be part of the National Dialogue Committee.
This comes even as Kioni leads Nadco’s Technical Committee from the Azimio side.
