Azimio Gives Notice to Police Over Nairobi Street Demonstration

The One Kenya Coalition Party, led by Raila Odinga, has announced that it will be resuming its weekly anti-government protests in Nairobi.

To begin the process, the opposition group has notified the Officer in Charge of the Nairobi Central Police Station of their plans to hold peaceful demonstrations.

The opposition has stated that they plan to hold a procession on Tuesday, May 2, and will be submitting a written petition to Harambee House during the procession.

The Chairperson of Azimio’s Governing Council, Wycliffe Oparanya, delivered the notification to the police, which included details of the planned demonstration.

The procession will take place on major streets in Nairobi. Including Moi Avenue, Kenyatta Avenue, Harambee Avenue, and Haile Selassie Avenue.

The opposition has stated that the procession will be peaceful and will take place from dawn to dusk.

The purpose of the demonstration is to protest against the current government and to demand change.

The opposition has been vocal in its criticism of the government. Citing issues such as corruption, rising inflation, and high unemployment rates.

The group has called for a more inclusive government that addresses the needs of all Kenyans.

The notification to the police is a standard procedure that is required by law for any public gathering or demonstration.

The police will be responsible for ensuring that the procession is peaceful and does not disrupt public order.

The opposition has stated that they will cooperate with the police. And follow all the necessary procedures to ensure that the demonstration is peaceful.

The resumption of the weekly protests by the opposition comes after a period of relative calm in Nairobi.

The protests had been suspended due to the Islamic holidays. But with the situation coming to an end, the opposition has decided to resume the demonstrations.

The protests are expected to continue until the opposition’s demands are met by the government.
