Atwoli Bags New Role In Ruto Govt
Using a special gazette notice dated November 22, 2023, President William Ruto established the Social Health Board by the Social Health Insurance Act.
COTU-K stands for Central Organisation of Trade Unions. Francis Atwoli was a member of the inaugural board’s pioneering group.
As stated in the Gazette Notice, Timothy Olweny will preside over the council.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 7 (1) (a) of the Social Health Insurance Act, I, William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces appointed Timothy Olweny to be the Chairperson of the Social Health Authority, for three (3) years, with effect from the 22nd November, 2023,’ the notice read in part.
Francis Atwoli, Kacinta Kathamu Mutegi, and Zakayo Kariuki are others who have been appointed to the board by the President via Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha.
Additionally, each member was appointed for a three-year tenure.

Four measures about universal health coverage, including the Social Health Insurance Act, were ratified into law on October 19 by President William Ruto.
The Facility Improvement Financing Act, the Primary Health Care Act, and the Digital Health Act are additional legislation enacted in 2023.
The COTU leader, Francis Atwoli, has been bestowed with this third prominent position by the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Labour CS Florence Bore designated Francis Atwoli for the National Labour Board in May 2023.
The unionist is concurrently completing a three-year tenure on the National Labour Board.
Furthermore, Ruto appointed Atwoli to a seven-member committee responsible for selecting the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in June 2023.
Following this, the group suggested Renson Mulele Ingonga for DPP.
