Archbishop Muheria Alarmed by President Ruto’s ‘Arrogant’ Rule

Archbishop Anthony Muheria of Nyeri has called for a humane and compassionate approach to government-opposition tensions.

Muheria expressed concern to Citizen TV’s Sunday Live program about President William Ruto’s leadership, which he described as arrogant and intimidating.

“Leadership must be considerate, compassionate, and empathic. Currently, the leader is rude, offensive, haughty, and intimidating. “Religious leaders want to talk because we’re about to enter a very bad leadership,” he explained.

And as opposition leader Raila Odinga’s coalition Azimio la Umoja One Kenya maintains that the anti-government protests that have resulted in the deaths of more than a dozen people across the country will continue this week, the archbishop remarked a lack of humanity in how Kenyans deal with political differences.

“We have weaponized misery, poverty, and tragedy on numerous occasions; when something goes awry, we go out with our swords to find a battlefield to fight our opponents in a vicious, inhumane manner. We must recover our compassion, said Muheria.

According to the archbishop, the Kenya Kwanza administration must meet with clergy members to discuss how to establish a leadership tone devoid of threats and supremacy struggles.

“We would like to discuss the manner of leadership, our support for your agenda, and the fact that we are one family despite our divergent opinions. “Violence, hatred, and insults do not resolve family disputes,” Muheria noted.

“We sit, converse, and listen attentively to one another before conceding and reaching a compromise. We may not always concur, but we don’t let that lead to poor manners,” he added.

The archbishop’s remarks were made just one day after President Ruto stated that the government would no longer allow a few individuals to exploit constitutional provisions to cause anarchy and destroy the economy and businesses of Kenyans in the name of protests.

Ruto stated at a Saturday event in Karachuonyo, Homa Bay County, that the government will mobilize all available resources to safeguard Kenyan lives.

Ahead of this week’s scheduled three-day demonstrations against the rising cost of living, he warned the opposition to prepare for a fierce battle.

“I respect everyone, and no one should hold me accountable for beginning my task. Nitafanya kazi yangu kwa bidii tena,” the president noted.

“Otherwise, we must have a conversation to determine what maandamano means,” he added.
