Another Video Emerges: KPLC Staff Threatened with Machete

The resurfacing of a video showing Kenya Power employees in Mombasa being threatened with a machete. While disconnecting power from a residence on Wednesday, July 7 infuriated Kenyans.

In the video, a man wielding a machete approaches the Briton, who is disconnecting the power line.

On 19 May, while atop the pole with his work camera, a Briton captured the video.

During the incident, the man, whose identity was not disclosed, demanded to know why his electricity was being cut off despite having paid his bills.

The distressed customer reported that the power was being cut off for a second time, acknowledging that he had previously been disconnected due to his deficiencies.

“Do not even attempt to descend. You (British) are aware of the issues I’ve had with this account. I have been treating you as if you were my sibling. Did I object when you cut my power supply the last time?

“In this instance, I am not at fault. Why are you disconnecting my power from the pole instead of the meter box?

During the interaction, the Kenya Power employee did not respond and indicated only that he would remain on the pole until the man left.

The Briton replied, “No problem, I’ll just stay here until evening.”

Nimrod Mbai, member of parliament for Kitui East, was arrested earlier for assaulting a Kenya Power employee who went to his Kitengela residence to disconnect the power.

In the meantime, the CEO of a power utility company, Joseph Siror, reached out to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for assistance in combating the rise in illegal power connections.

Mohamed Amid, director of the DCI, vowed to assist the agency in combating the vice.
