The National Integrity Alliance (NIA), comprising five non-governmental organizations, called on the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Thursday to investigate all recently dismissed cabinet secretaries.

During a press briefing, the advocacy groups urged the anti-graft commission to thoroughly examine the former ministers and conduct a wealth audit.

Led by the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), the NGOs also requested that President William Ruto appoint leaders who are both honest and free of legal infractions.

The non-governmental organizations urged the EACC to initiate lifestyle audits and investigations into the recently removed cabinet secretaries and other public officials.

They also called for scrutiny of public officers who have been identified by citizens as exhibiting lavish lifestyles inconsistent with their reported sources of income.

Human rights organizations stressed the importance of holding the dismissed cabinet secretaries accountable for their actions in office to prevent the misuse of public funds through corruption.

The NGOs also called on President Ruto to investigate the violence inflicted on peaceful protesters during recent demonstrations.

Specifically, they demanded action against former Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and his defense counterpart Aden Duale for their roles in the fatalities that occurred during anti-government protests.

The groups expressed frustration with the conduct of many former cabinet secretaries and noted the lack of political accountability for corruption scandals, such as the fake fertilizer and mosquito net schemes.

These demands follow President Rutoโ€™s recent dismissal of all cabinet secretaries, excluding the Prime CS, who also serves as the foreign affairs minister.

In a statement at State House in Nairobi, Ruto explained that the decision was made in response to public demand during recent nationwide protests.

“After reflecting on the feedback from the people of Kenya and evaluating the performance and challenges of my Cabinet, I have decided to dismiss all the CSs and AG effective immediately, except for the PCS and CS for Foreign Affairs. The office of the DP remains unaffected,” Ruto declared.
