Albert’s Uncle Reveals Political Seat Ojwang Wanted to Contest in 2027
The tragic story of Albert Ojwang, a dedicated teacher and social media influencer, has taken a heartbreaking turn. His uncle shared that Albert was gearing up to run for the Kokwanyo Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in the upcoming 2027 general election.
During the emotional burial service held on Friday at his family home in Kakoth Village, located in Kokwanyo, Homa Bay County, his uncle revealed that Albert was not only determined but also hopeful about securing the position, even if it meant trying more than once.
In a touching moment, the uncle reflected on how the 31-year-old always cherished his family and made it a point to visit him regularly. It was during one of these heartfelt visits that Albert opened up about his aspirations in politics.
As he spoke to the gathered mourners, he recounted their last conversation, which took place just days before Albert’s untimely passing.
“Whenever Albert came home from Mombasa, he would always pass by my place first, even if he was staying for a month,” the uncle narrated.
“He sent me Ksh500 for transport so we could meet at Obambo. We sat and talked for hours. That’s when he told me, ‘I want to vie for MCA next year. Even if I lose, I’ll still run. It doesn’t have to be through Ruto’s party,” Ojwang’s uncle continued.

The uncle, clearly upset, shared his sorrow that Ojwang’s dreams of a political career would now remain unfulfilled due to his tragic passing. He explained that Ojwang’s ambitions were driven by a genuine wish to uplift his community and empower the youth of Kokwanyo.
The uncle also mentioned that they had already started brainstorming campaign strategies and community outreach initiatives.
“We had so many plans. He was serious about it,” he said.
Ojwang was taken into custody on June 7 by DCI officers after he was accused of defaming Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat. Following his arrest, he was brought to the Mawego police station and later transferred to the Nairobi Central police, where he tragically lost his life the very next day.
The autopsy revealed evidence of blunt force trauma and strangulation. His untimely death sparked national outrage, with young people flooding the streets to protest against police brutality and demand justice.
On Thursday, June 3, furious youths carried his body to the Mawego police station and set it ablaze. Reports indicated that police officers were driven away from the burial, as the enraged youths insisted that they should not be part of the proceedings since Ojwang had died while in their custody.
