A Deeper Dive: Uhuru’s Involvement in Raila’s Saba Saba Protests
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has been accused of being the mastermind behind the Azimio la Umoja Saba Saba demonstrations on Friday, July 7, which were led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Notably, President William Ruto’s allies, led by digital strategist Dennis Itumbi, asserted that on July 6, Uhuru presided over a meeting with Azimio legislators in which they devised countermeasures to disrupt government operations.
Ruto’s camp asserts that one of the ideas discussed in the meeting allegedly presided over by Uhuru was the collection of 10 million signatures to unseat President William Ruto.
“Today, after an early-morning meeting at Raila Odinga’s home in Kerarapon between Former President Uhuru and Raila Odinga, Uhuru resigned. Azimio convened a top-secret emergency meeting.
“At the meeting, it was decided that there would be no maandamano in Nairobi and that they would instead travel to Kamukunji grounds to launch the website and public signature collection,” Itumbi stated.
However, political analyst Barrack Muluka told GossipA2Z that Raila planned and orchestrated all of the Saba Saba demonstrations.
The analyst with a Ph.D. in Politics and International Relations asserts that Uhuru is an outspoken leader who does not hide behind others.
As the best example, he cited Uhuru’s public appearance at the Jubilee Party headquarters, which was prompted by leadership disputes between factions led by party secretary general Jeremiah Kioni and East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) member Kanini Kega.

“I do not know Uhuru to be the type of coward who would hide behind another individual. I know Uhuru to be the type of person who speaks publicly.
“He speaks with great conviction about matters in which he believes. We observed this when he was dissatisfied with party events, he stated.
In support of this position, Muluka cited Raila’s previous anti-government demonstrations, noting that they occurred every election year.
“This is the style of Raila. He will not accept unfavorable election results. “Until I have evidence that Uhuru is involved, I would be hesitant to say that Uhuru is working with Kenyatta,” Muluka stated.
Azimio has not yet responded to Ruto’s allies’ allegations.
On Monday, July 3, Uhuru met with Bintou Keita, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Going Forward
Despite their admiration for Ruto’s political acumen, analysts led by Mutahi Ngunyi have cautioned him regarding the Azimio protests.
Ngunyi acknowledged that Raila drew a massive crowd to the Kamukunji rally.
“Dear Ruto, this image frightened me. It is an earth swell. You cannot purchase these masses. You can kill the messenger, but you cannot destroy the message.
“The enemy does not consist of Raila. The enemy is humanity. The only thing these individuals have to lose is their chains. “Do not be irreverent,” he stated.
On Wednesday, July 12, Azimio will conduct a second demonstration.
