    Ruto Sabotage: Wajackoyah’s Response

The leader of the Roots Party, George Wajackoyah, has refuted political scientist Mutahi Ngunyi’s claims that Azimio funded his political organization to undermine President William Ruto’s 2022 candidacy for the State House.

On Saturday, August 12, Ngunyi, a political analyst, made the controversial claim that Azimio provided funding to Wajackoyah’s party so that it could introduce its manifesto at the same time as Kenya Kwanza’s, to diminish the latter’s momentum.

Wajackoyah disclosed in a strongly worded statement that his party had become unwittingly entangled in the situation. He accused Ngunyi of using his party for personal political benefit, possibly to secure a position in the government of President William Ruto.

“The remarks are baseless, unfounded, and intended to insult our party,” read a portion of the statement.

In a dig at Ngunyi, Wajackoyah made a pointed remark emphasizing that, unlike the political analyst, he had not achieved success through empty gestures.

While denying receiving any funding from the Jubilee Administration or Azimio, the Roots Party has pointedly placed the responsibility on Ngunyi, labeling him a propagandist.

“We refuse to be used as an entry narrative in unholy political matrimony,” Wajackoyah warned Ngunyi, a former ally of Former President Uhuru Kenyatta who has since sworn allegiance to Ruto.

The former presidential candidate reaffirmed his dedication to collaborating with like-minded individuals to herald an era of economic liberation for Kenya.

Wajackoyah, who is not a member of Azimio, has allied himself with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Leader Raila Odinga in opposition to the government following their respective defeats in the presidential elections of last year.

Shortly before Ngunyi’s criticism of the Roots Party, Wajackoyah asserted that the government had repeatedly attempted to eliminate Raila without success.

During an interview, Ngunyi implied that Wajackoyah’s allegiance to Raila may have been influenced by Azimio’s substantial contributions to his presidential campaigns.

Raila and Azimio had not yet stated the alleged financial assistance extended to the Roots Party at the time this article was published.
