MCA Stabbed in Siaya Political Clash

A County Assembly Member (MCA) hailing from Siaya County is currently in critical condition at a Kisumu hospital following a stabbing ordeal over the weekend.

Brian Anyango, who serves as the representative for South Gem, was subjected to this unfortunate event while he was present at a funeral gathering within his electoral division.

At the funeral, the MCA encountered strong resistance and was repeatedly interrupted with negative remarks by the people from his constituency while delivering his speech. He faced a continuous chorus of disapproval as he attempted to offer his sympathies to the grieving family.

The elected official had clashed with his voters due to his involvement with politicians from Kenya Kwanza. Throughout this year, he has held discussions with Kipchumba Murkomen, the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, and Eliud Owalo, the Cabinet Secretary for ICT.

Gem Sub-County Police Commander Cecilia Kemboi stated that the Member of County Assembly (MCA) was subjected to multiple assaults involving a sharp implement.

The occurrence was promptly communicated to the Akala Police Station, and he was quickly transported to Kisumu County for immediate medical care.

According to the reports, amid a tumultuous atmosphere of booing and heckling, a mourner suddenly charged towards the stage and forcefully grabbed the microphone from Anyango.

During the subsequent chaos, a mob of unknown individuals attacked the politician violently, putting his life in jeopardy. Thankfully, he managed to narrowly avoid death, but the severity of the assault left him in critical condition.

Gem Member of Parliament Elisha Odhiambo spoke at the hospital after he visited the MCA, claiming that the assailants intended to murder him.

The Member of Parliament (MP) promised to implement strong measures to ensure that similar incidents do not happen again in his constituency.

Elisha Odhiambo, once again expressing his backing for the Kenya Kwanza administration, additionally asserted that the individuals behind the assault were motivated and organized by a politician hailing from Kisumu County.

The MCA, who won as an independent candidate, has been facing challenging political circumstances due to his affiliations. The Luo Nyanza region has historically shown unwavering support for opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Local leaders criticized him for his recent meeting with Cabinet Secretaries Kipchumba Murkomen and Eliud Owalo.

The MCA defended his actions by stating that his interaction with government officials was intended to promote progress and growth in Siaya County.
