Priest’s Luxury Cars Vandalized by Thugs
A priest from Kikuyu, Kiambu County, was left adrift after unknown individuals broke into his home and severely damaged two of his vehicles.
During the nocturnal incident, the perpetrators stole headlights and other spare parts from the vehicles, as well as smashed several windows.
Residents who spoke to journalists after the robbery stated that the thieves entered the priest’s residence via a wooden ladder mounted to the exterior wall.
The congregation of the priest’s church condemned the incident and demanded immediate investigations.
According to one member of the congregation, the vandalism cost the church at least Ksh400,000.
According to his account, the incident was regrettably not an isolated incident, as multiple residents had previously reported similar incidents of thieves breaking into their homes at night and vandalizing their vehicles to steal spare parts.
Several days ago, at least five houses were broken into and vehicles were vandalized in Kirwa, as reported by a resident.
Locals have therefore demanded that the government crackdown on illicit spare part dealers who fuel the illegal trade.
After the incident, police officers were dispatched to the site to conduct an investigation and gather evidence.
In April, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen initiated a crackdown on all illegal spare parts merchants in response to a rise in accidents across the nation.
Murkomen ordered the National Transport and Safety Administration (NTSA) to combat the proliferation of substandard products in the automotive industry.
“It has been noted that the majority of accidents were caused by tire blowouts, brake failure at high speeds, and colliding with vehicles with substandard retroreflective strips, thereby impairing road visibility,” the CS stated.
