Kindiki Mocks Azimio: “Sasa wameingia kwa nyasi”

The government is pleased with how it handled demonstrators during the three-day demonstrations called by the Azimio la Umoja coalition last week.

Kindiki stated on Tuesday that Azimio developed cold feet as a result of the arduous counterattack and canceled Wednesday’s protests.

“Last week wakafanya ingine kama hiyo, wakasema tutarudi tena. Tukawaambia msikuje. Wakati wamejaribu last weekโ€ฆ.wakakuta tulikuja saa saba ya usiku tunawangojea. Hiyo siku tatu wameona cha mtema kuni,” the CS said.

Kindiki addressed a security baraza at Kalya Market, located at the juncture of Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot Counties.

“Kukaakaa wakatangaza ingine wakasema ni kesho (Wednesday) tukawaambia kujeni, sasa wameingia kwa nyasi.”

On Monday, the leader of Azimio, Raila Odinga, announced that he had canceled Wednesday’s planned protests in favor of solidarity marches and a vigil for victims of police brutality.

During the three days of nationwide street protests last week, he claimed that at least fifty people were shot by police or hired criminals, and hundreds more were hospitalized.

“In light of the preceding, Azimio has decided to conduct a different type of protest on Wednesday, July 26. Raila stated, “We are calling on Kenyans to come out, light candles, and lay white flowers in remembrance and respect for the victims.”

Raila called for the demonstrations to exert pressure on the government to reduce the cost of living and taxes.

During a violent clash with anti-riot police, the demonstrations resulted in property devastation, looting, and the deaths of protesters.

Kindiki reaffirmed the government’s position that no one will be permitted to continue wreaking devastation throughout the nation under the guise of exercising democratic rights to demonstrate.

“Na mwenye anataka kupanga vurugu ajiandae, tutakamatana na yeye, tutapelekana, na tutamuondoa katikati yetu kwa sababu hao watu ndio wameharibu sifa ya Kenya.”
