Uhuru Dares Ruto: Come for Me If You Want Me!

Thursday, July 21, former President Uhuru Kenyatta dared President Ruto to go after him directly and cease targeting his family.

Speaking at the home of his eldest son Jomo Kenyatta in Karen after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) raided the residence of the younger Kenyatta, a visibly enraged Uhuru accused Ruto of waging an unnecessary political war against him.

“The fact that I have remained mute does not indicate that I am afraid. Come to get me. What relevance does my mother have to anything? What relevance does my son have to anything? The former president commented.

In response to whether he believed the incident was related to the ongoing protests, the former president criticized the government’s tactics and vowed to do everything in his power to defend his family.

“Unfortunately, I have no other explanation to offer because everything is occurring consecutively. I have had individuals who have guarded my mother for the past 50 years removed at night, and now my son’s home is being raided for reasons I do not comprehend. Uhuru remarked, “This begs the question: what does this government wish to achieve?”

Uhuru also refuted claims by the Kenya Kwanza administration that he finances Azimio protests.

“The issues being discussed by Kenyans have nothing to do with me.” Have you observed me on any of these occasions? Have you heard me discuss any of these occurrences?” Uhuru questioned.

The former head of state stated that the assault would not deter him from associating with the leader of the Azimio movement, Raila Odinga.

“Am I not permitted to communicate with my friends? Is that a crime today in Kenya? I believed the only criminal act was associating with terrorists or bank robbers?” an enraged Uhuru questioned.

Uhuru added that he had not spoken with President Ruto to resolve the current political impasse.

“Why should I seek out someone who does not wish to speak with me?” he asked.

The chairman of the Azimio Coalition expressed displeasure and stated that he would let his attorneys resolve the dispute.

Guns

It appeared from Uhuru’s remarks that the DCI was pursuing the Kenyatta heir for illegal possession of firearms. In light of Ruto and Uhuru’s ongoing political conflict over the Azimio demonstrations, the firearms argument is irrelevant.

“They should inform me of their intentions regarding my children. They’ve eliminated their security, and now I hear they want to eliminate their weaponry. Why would they want to do that? Are they planning something? If illicit weapons are an issue, they should inform the world. How many individuals, including foreigners, have licensed firearms? “Didn’t they follow the proper procedure?” Uhuru accused.
