CAF Demands Gor Mahia License Revocation: FKF Ordered!

The president of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), Nick Mwendwa, has been ordered by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to revoke the license of the Premier League champions, Gor Mahia Football Club.

Gor, also known as Kogalo, was expelled from the CAF Champions League on Thursday, July 20 for failing to comply with the CAF Club Licensing Rules.

Gor Mahia allegedly failed to fulfill several CAF requirements, including having a valid license and providing financial guarantees for three unpaid players.

Gor Mahia will not be able to compete in the CAF Champions League this season as a consequence of this decision.

The club may also be subject to a fine of Ksh1.4 million ($10,000) or more, as determined by the dispute resolution committee of the CAF Champions League.

Gor Mahia is a well-known club in Kenya, having won the Kenyan Premier League more than five times and competing in the CAF Cup on numerous occasions.

An FKF source told GossipA2Z that the decision to expel Gor Mahia from the CAF Champions League is a setback to the club and Kenyan football.

“It is also a reminder of the importance of meeting CAF’s club licensing requirements,” an FKF source said.

The club was founded in 1968 as a merger of local unions and sports organizations and has won the Kenyan Premier League a record 20 times, making it the most successful club in Kenyan football.

In 1987, Gor Mahia also won the CAF Cup Winners’ Cup, becoming the first and only Kenyan club to capture an African continental championship.

The club’s nickname is “K’Ogalo,” which is a Luo term that means “Son of Ogalo.” Notable members of the team include Austin Oduor, Dan Odhiambo, and Musa Otieno.

The club’s home uniform consists of a green shirt, yellow shorts, and green socks. The club’s colors are green and white. Their away uniform consists of yellow trousers and green socks.
