MCAs Determined for Salary and Benefit Reinstatement

Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) are targeting vice president Rigathi Gachagua to have their salaries reviewed.

The ward representatives disagree with the DP’s comments, in which he dared them to strike.

Gachagua warned the MCAs that the government would ignore their demands even if they stripped naked and carried cooking pots on their heads.

Sunday, during a thanksgiving ceremony in Njoro, Nakuru County, the MCAs asserted that their demands for a pay raise are unstoppable.

Lare MCA Philip Wanjohi stated, “We were saddened by the remarks made by the Vice President.

The county assembly members who have already paralyzed operations in some counties by suspending their meetings say they will not approve county budgets until their demands are satisfied.

Until the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) agrees to review and reinstate their salaries, 28 county assemblies have suspended their meetings indefinitely.

The ward representatives have deemed the SRC’s decision to increase their gross pay from Ksh. 144,375 to Ksh. 154,481 beginning in July a mockery of their demands.

In addition, they demand the reinstatement of their salaries and allowances, car grants, and mortgages.
