Age Knows No Bounds: 99-Year-Old Nanyuki Granny Arrested for Harboring Criminals

On Friday morning, there was drama in the town of Majengo, Nanyuki, after police officers attempted to arrest a 99-year-old woman accused of selling illegal alcohol and harboring a criminal gang.

The woman sobbed uncontrollably and threatened the officers with a curse if they dared to touch her or search her rented home for evidence of criminal activity.

Unfazed, the officers proceeded with their mission, seizing approximately nine liters of chang’aa hidden in plastic bottles under her dress, as well as more than 40 knives and some crowbars believed to be used by gangsters to break into shops and homes.

Several padlocks, five axes, six knives, and other assorted items were also discovered in the one-room house, including dozens of tea bags hidden in a metal box that was believed to be from shop burglaries. The woman’s identification card discovered in the residence revealed that she was born in 1924.

Laikipia East Deputy Commissioner Patrick Muli, who led the operation, stated that the woman had evaded arrest in the past by threatening to strip naked and ‘curse’ any officer who dared to touch her illegal goods.

“According to an intelligence report, she was a chang’aa dealer in the past. “However, it has always been difficult for our male law enforcement officers to obtain the evidence because she always conceals the illegal brew under her clothing and threatens anyone who dares to expose her bare skin,” said Mr. Muli.

The multi-agency security team found her outside her rented home, accompanied by several female law enforcement officers.

When she was informed that she would be subjected to a strip search, she pretended to be ill and began throwing tantrums, threatening police officers with death if they attempted to arrest her.

“You are my grandchildren, and you dare to molest a frail elderly woman. She threatened the undercover officers, who discovered four bottles of chang’aa by reaching under her dress.

The officers then went to her residence. Where they discovered additional bottles of chang’aa. And several other items believed to be used at night by a criminal gang.

“She asserts that she lives alone in the home. What purpose do all these crude weapons serve? Mr. Muli stated that the only logical conclusion is that she lends them to young criminals to terrorize people at night.

A resident, speaking in confidence, stated that she had known the woman as an “untouchable” chang’aa dealer for years.

“I relocated here in 2017 and discovered that she sold chang’aa. “Locals believe she has magical charms that shield her from police arrest,” a resident explained.

Laikipia East Police Commander John Tarus stated at the scene. That the ongoing crackdown on illicit alcohol would spare no one, regardless of age or social standing.
