Uhuru Shifts Jubilee Delegates’ Meeting Venue Amid Dispute

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced a new location for Monday’s contentious Jubilee National Delegates Conference.

Mr. Kenyatta announced in a notice published in Saturday’s newspapers that the meeting would now be held at the Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi after his party was denied access to the Bomas of Kenya.

“Notice is hereby given that the Jubilee NDC has been relocated to the Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi. All other information remains unchanged from the notice issued on April 29, 2023.

The notice was issued on the same day. That the party’s Internal Dispute Resolution Committee published a notice suspending the convention. Which was intended to remove rebels led by East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega. And nominated MP Sabina Chege.

“The committee directs that the notice issued by the respondent (Mr. Kenyatta) to convene a special national delegates’ convention is hereby stayed and suspended pending the hearing and determination of the dispute,” declared committee chairman Gideon Solonka.

In an intensification of the struggle for the party’s soul. The Kega faction dragged Mr. Kenyatta before the committee last week for alleged gross misconduct.

By “irregularly” convening the delegates’ conference, Mr. Kenyatta is accused of violating the party’s constitution.

“Take notice that an internal dispute has been filed against you and received by the Committee for Internal Dispute Resolution. You are required to submit your response, along with any supporting documentation, to the committee within two days of receipt of this notification,” stated a letter to the former head of state.

“You will be notified of an opportunity to be heard before the committee making a final decision on the matter.”

The camp of Mr. Kenyatta, however, has insisted that the Jubilee NDC, which will be used to expel party rebels, will proceed as planned.
