Champion of the 100 meters in Kenya, Ferdinand Omanyala, won the Kip Keino Classic with a time of 9.83 seconds.

In the 2023 season, Omanyala’s fastest 100-meter time was 9.83 seconds.

During the 2023 season, that was also the fastest time in the world.

The sprinter was followed by American Kenneth Bednareck, whose season-best time was 9.98 seconds.

Omanyala won the race at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, with President William Ruto and Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga cheering from the stands.

Marvin Bracy of the United States placed third with a time of 10.03 seconds. Also a personal best for the season.

Notably, the race had to be restarted due to Steve Odhiambo’s disqualification for a starting mistake.

Omanyala thanked Kenyans for the support he received at Kasarani and stated that he was concentrating on the upcoming races.

“It feels incredible to win in front of such a large crowd at home. I am now concentrating on my next assignment, the Rabat Diamond League. I am aware that it will not be simple, but as always, I will give it my all,” he stated.

Omanyala also received his award from the annual event’s chief guest, Ruto.

This is the second time that Omanyala has won the Kip Keino Classic. In 2022, he defeated American Fred Kerley with a time of 9.85 seconds.

The African champion competed in four international competitions, including the Athletics South Africa (ASA) Grand Prix in which he recorded a time of 10.05 seconds.

On April 29, 2023, at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix, Omanyala recorded a time of 9.78 seconds. However, his victory was void due to a starting error.

Earlier, on February 15, the champion ran 60 meters in 6.54 seconds at the Arena Stade Couvert in France during the 2023 World Athletics Indoor Tour.
