Prof. Kithure Kindiki is expected to testify before a Senate Ad-hoc committee investigating the proliferation of cultic religious organizations and the circumstances surrounding the deaths of 110 individuals in Shakahola, Kilifi County.

The committee, which has 90 days to report back to the House, will begin its public hearings with CS Kindiki, Attorney General Justin Muturi, and the Registrar of Societies in the Office of the Attorney General the following week.

Committee will seek information from the officers regarding the registration status of religious organizations, the mitigation measures of the current case, and the regulations, if any, used to control religious organizations and their activities.

The committee will also investigate the role controversial self-proclaimed pastor Paul Mackenzie, his pastoral team, and Kilifi County security agencies played in aiding and abetting the deaths of members of the Good News International church.

The committee will then travel to Kilifi. Where it will meet with the county administration and its leadership, the County Commissioner, and the security team.

In addition, the committee will conduct a site visit to Shakahola Forest, where they will meet with victims’ families.

The team will also visit the New Life Prayer Centre in Mavueni, Kilifi County. Which is associated with Pastor Ezekiel Odero, who is currently in police custody awaiting his Thursday court appearance.

Senator Danson Mungatana of the Tana River was elected to co-chair the committee. With Senator Shakila Abdalla of the Nominated after committee members held their first meeting to elect their leadership.

The committee was established after the Senate adopted the motion. Introduced to the House by Majority Whip and Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale.
