Exclusive: Details of George Ruto’s Ksh14M Matatu with DJ Booth, Solar Power & Imported Seats

President William Ruto’s son, George Ruto, sparked fresh conversation online over the weekend after he was seen at a garage where a flashy new matatu, believed to be part of his growing transport business, was being customized.

Gossipa2z.com has obtained exclusive images of the upcoming matatu, which is expected to officially launch next week. Fans of Nairobi’s lively matatu culture are already buzzing with curiosity about the route this new ride will take.

According to Branden Marshall, a popular figure in the matatu industry and the voice behind Matatu Galore, the new matatu will likely serve the Embakasi or Rongai route. This follows the route change of another vehicle in George’s fleet — the well-known ‘Manifest’, which was moved from Rongai to Embakasi after some issues on the road.

“There’s a lot of excitement. Drivers are already lining up, hoping to be chosen to drive it. Everyone’s pushing for it to operate on either Rongai or Embakasi,” Marshall told Gossipa2z.com.

However, some reports claim the matatu might not join the typical public service routes. Instead, it could be offered for private or corporate hire, marking a shift away from the traditional PSV (public service vehicle) model.

Sources close to the project revealed some jaw-dropping features: a 65-inch TV, a live DJ deck, solar panels, and premium bucket seats imported from China. This matatu will be the first in Kenya to use bucket seats in a 25-seater layout, offering more comfort and luxury compared to the usual 32-seater setup.

The seats will follow a 2-by-1 layout, and the onboard DJ booth is designed to enhance entertainment during both regular commutes and special events.

The vehicle, named ‘Doom’, trended online after George Ruto was photographed beside it, proudly holding a custom number plate — setting social media abuzz.

Industry insiders estimate the matatu cost between Ksh13 million and Ksh14 million. The chassis and body reportedly cost Ksh6.8 million, while the lighting system added another Ksh2.5 million. A high-end sound system cost around Ksh300,000.

With its top-tier features and bold design, ‘Doom’ is expected to shake up Nairobi’s transport scene — whether it hits the road as a premium commuter ride or becomes a standout piece in Kenya’s creative, commercial matatu space.
