ICT and Digital Economy Cabinet nominee William Kabogo has refuted allegations linking him to drug trafficking, dating back over a decade.
During his vetting at County Hall on Tuesday, the former Kiambu Governor addressed concerns raised by National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed, who revisited accusations from the late Interior Minister George Saitoti’s Drug Baron Scandal. The claims, made when Kabogo served as Juja MP, implicated him and three other lawmakers.
Kabogo dismissed the allegations, describing them as baseless and unfit even for a local drama plot. He emphasized that he had never engaged in narcotics and noted that investigative authorities had cleared him.
“I have never dealt with drugs in my entire life. I doubt Junet was referring to Panadol; he must mean hard drugs like cocaine. It’s a serious accusation, but I invite Kenyans to review the dossier tabled by Mr. Saitoti in Parliament. Even if it were handed to Inspector Mwala, it wouldn’t pass as a credible script,” Kabogo stated.

He further explained that police investigations at the time exonerated him, and the findings were presented in Parliament. Kabogo also denied allegations in the dossier that claimed he once worked as a driver for then-Trade Assistant Minister Harun Mwau.
“I was thoroughly investigated, and the police concluded I wasn’t involved in drug trafficking. The claims were baseless,” Kabogo added.
Kabogo, a businessman, revealed that he had offered to assist U.S. authorities with their investigations but was never summoned. He also pursued legal action against those who defamed him, including current Nyali MP Mohamed Ali, then an investigative journalist and was awarded compensation.
“I volunteered to travel anywhere in the world to clear my name, but it never came to that. The authors of that dossier intended to tarnish reputations, but justice prevailed. Although it took nearly nine years, I was compensated, even though the damage to my name lingers,” he said.
The late Prof. George Saitoti had implicated Kabogo alongside Harun Mwau, Kisauni MP Hassan Joho, Makadara MP Gideon ‘Sonko’ Mbuvi, and businessman Ali Punjani. All accused individuals denied involvement in drug trafficking.
