How 3 Teenagers Faked Abduction & Pressed Parents to Release Ksh6 Million

Three teenagers from Kenya were arrested on Monday after orchestrating a fake kidnapping to swindle Ksh6 million from one of their accomplice’s parents in Meru County.

The trio, all 17 years old, devised this get-rich-quick scheme, which was swiftly thwarted by police from Imenti North.

Comprising two boys and a girl, the minors plotted for the girl to pose as the victim while the boys took on the roles of her abductors.

They contacted the girl’s parents, demanding a Ksh6 million ransom in exchange for her safe return.

However, their scheme began to unravel when the girl’s parents reported her missing to the police on September 24.

Meru Police Station officers launched an urgent manhunt for the kidnappers, believing the girl was at risk.

Meanwhile, the girl’s parents attempted to negotiate with the fake kidnappers but received no response.

After becoming involved in the investigation, detectives from Imenti North quickly uncovered forensic evidence that led directly to the supposed victim.

It turned out she had colluded with the two boys to extort money from her parents.

The three were eventually tracked down at their hideout in Kainginyo, where police also discovered 20 rolls of marijuana.

Despite being found unharmed, all three were arrested and are currently detained at Igoji Police Station, awaiting their court appearance.

They face charges of conspiracy to defraud and possession of narcotics.
