Ex-Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal Fined Ksh84.5 Million or Serve 8-Year Jail Term, Faces 10-Year Ban from Public Office
The Anti-Corruption Court has mandated former Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal to pay Ksh84.5 million after being convicted of a Ksh83 million corruption scandal.
Justice Thomas Nzioki ruled that Lenolkulal is barred from holding any public office for the next ten years.
Additionally, Nzioki stated that Lenolkulal must pay Ksh2 million for conflict of interest and unlawful property acquisition.
If the former governor fails to pay the Ksh2 million, he will face an eight-year sentence.
Lenolkulal’s accomplice, accused of helping him embezzle county funds, has been ordered to pay Ksh83 million.

The judge highlighted that Lenolkulal’s actions violated constitutional principles of leadership and integrity, betraying the public’s trust.
“There was no justification for him to engage in business with the county. The Ksh83 million was a direct benefit to him and his accomplice,” remarked Judge Nzioki.
“This corruption case has been reviewed considering deterrence, retribution, denunciation, and community protection.”
Lenolkulal’s lawyer announced plans to appeal the ruling at the Supreme Court, asserting the former governor’s innocence, claiming that the county received the services it paid for.
The sentencing follows Lenolkulal’s conviction for corruption through a conflict of interest and unlawful property acquisition.
As governor, Lenolkulal was found guilty of receiving Ksh83 million for supplying petroleum products to Samburu County.
