President Ruto Accuses Ford Foundation of Funding Anti-Government Protests in Kenya

President William Ruto accused the American NGO, Ford Foundation, of funding recent anti-government protests in Kenya on Monday.

While speaking to Kenyans at Keringet Market in Nakuru County, Ruto emphasized the importance of peace in Kenya and claimed that some entities profited from the protests.

He alleged that these entities had been directing funds to unidentified groups to stage protests and destabilize the country.

“We know those who are sponsoring the violence, and I want to call them out. Shame on them!” Ruto declared.

Ruto further claimed that the organization had malicious intentions and acted against Kenya’s best interests and democracy.

“I want the people from Ford Foundation to explain what they hope to gain by destabilizing Kenya’s democracy,” Ruto stated.

Earlier, during a development tour in Nakuru, Ruto reiterated his concerns.

โ€œI want to warn those funding violence in Kenya that I will stop them. We want peace, and that is our stance,โ€ he added.

He urged the youth not to be manipulated by powerful entities.

โ€œOur young people, please don’t let anyone turn our country into a place of war, destruction, and chaos.”

The president’s remarks came after Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura’s comments on June 22, where he accused international players of funding the protests.

Mwaura claimed that some foreign powers were displeased with Rutoโ€™s efforts to reduce reliance on the US Dollar for international trade, hence their interference in Kenyan politics.

On July 3, the government indicated that the police were investigating six politicians, a businessman, and two NGOs suspected of financing the protests.

Those being investigated included a politician from Rift Valley, three from Nairobi, and two from Central Kenya. The businessman was said to be based in Rift Valley. A local and an international NGO were also under investigation.
