    14-year-old Schoolgirl’s Ecstasy Overdose Tragedy

After taking ecstasy, a schoolgirl was discovered dead in her bed by her heartbroken mother.

The body of 14-year-old Estere Mickane from Scunthorpe was discovered by her mother Evita Kevisa upon her return from work on August 22, 2020, according to an inquest.

Ms. Kevisa was not present at the inquest, but in a statement read to the jury, she stated that the coronavirus lockdown increased Estere’s isolation.

Estere, who enjoyed studying at Outwood Academy Scunthorpe and was in the top classes, was a fan of art, drawing, and gymnastics, according to the speaker.

The inquest heard that when her school was closed due to the coronavirus, she found homeschooling difficult and missed her friends.

In a statement read at the hearing, one of Estere’s friends described how she purchased ecstasy tablets from a “young man in Scunthorpe.”

Estere and a few of her friends reportedly used ecstasy on multiple occasions “in the park or on the streets.”

Detective Sergeant Ron Nutting of Humberside Police stated that a forensic examination of the teen’s bedroom revealed no evidence that she had intentionally overdosed.

An autopsy revealed “substantially higher levels of MDMA (ecstasy) than recreational use.”

The inquest heard that excessive ecstasy use can result in heart failure, kidney failure, and liver failure.

In a report, toxicologist Dr. Nadia Burgess stated, “It is a myth that this drug is safe.”

In her conclusion, assistant coroner Marianne Johnson stated, “Unfortunately, it appears she disregarded the advice of her friends.”

She continued to take the drugs, she said. It was a spontaneous decision. She had her entire life ahead of her, and my deepest condolences go out to her family and friends.”

She concluded that drugs were the cause of death.

Mrs. Johnson stated, “Young people believe ecstasy to be harmless. The truth is that it is most definitely not a safe drug.

“This is a dangerous drug. It is a Class A controlled substance because there is no known safe level.

“You must consider the purity of a tablet and whether or not it is taken with another stimulant.”

“Its behavior varies depending on the circumstances. It is a dangerous drug that should not be consumed.”
