Newport Survivor Left Scared Stiff and Unrecognizable After Car Crash

Sophie Russon, a survivor of a horrific car accident, is “unrecognizable” due to her injuries and is sedated after experiencing panic attacks in the hospital, her distraught mother told The Sun last night.

Sophie, a 20-year-old bank employee, is recovering from life-saving surgery after sustaining a fractured skull and brain hemorrhage in the collision near Cardiff that killed three of her friends.

Her 41-year-old mother, Anna Cerowicz, is a vigil at her hospital bedside as she struggles to comprehend the tragic accident.

Anna from Newport stated, “She has no idea where she is or what has occurred.”

“She had panic attacks throughout the night, so she was sedated when she awoke.

“Sophie is in shock and has numerous wounds. She is unrecognizable.”

Mum-of-three Anna stated that Sophie must have been “terrified” while she was trapped in the car after it ran off the A48 near Cardiff.

Newport Survivor Left Scared Stiff and Unrecognizable After Car Crash. Friends Eve Smith, 21, and Darcy Ross, 21, as well as Rafel Jeanne, 24, were discovered dead off a busy dual carriageway in St Mellons, Cardiff. According to the police, only one vehicle was involved in the crash.

Sophie and Shane Loughlin, 32 years old, were discovered severely injured in the wreckage alongside their deceased friends.

Both are being treated at Cardiff’s University Hospital of Wales.

Sophie’s mother revealed, “She was surrounded by people in the car, which is a lot for anyone.

She was confined in a small space, shivering, terrified, and unable to access her mobile phone.

Anna believes Sophie suffered burns from her seatbelt and was left dangling in the car after it crashed into trees at a sharp angle.

She stated, “There are no words for it. I cannot fathom how long it will take for her to recover from this. She will require a great deal of support.

“I am heartbroken for Eve and Darcy’s families. In the end, they’ve lost a child, and I nearly lost mine.”

Anna questioned how officers on the ground and a National Police Air Service helicopter were unable to spot the car.

She stated, “Police officers on foot searched the area but found nothing.

It was on a major thoroughfare, near a roundabout, and opposite a garden center. It doesn’t make sense.”

She went on: “When I arrived at the scene of the collision, there were forty officers present.

“Where were they when I first reported Sophie missing on Saturday?”

Anna is left wondering whether the three individuals who perished could have been saved if they had been reached sooner.

She said, “The police told me they were killed on impact, but only Sophie and Shane will know that. They are the only available witnesses.”

Last night, South Wales police confirmed that more than 46 hours had passed between the last sighting of the group and the discovery of their wrecked vehicle.

A window washer who discovered the wreckage with his son after 15 minutes of searching criticized the police for not finding them sooner.

Matthew Pace, 45, went on a search with his son Lewis, 26, and a friend named Rafel. They discovered tire tracks leading from the St Mellons roundabout and then notified the police.

He stated, “The police took control, so I was spared from seeing the wreckage.

If they had been discovered sooner, perhaps there would be better news.

Darcy Ross also lost her life in the car crash

I would have guessed that the police would have been searching for them since Saturday when they were reported missing.

Lewis stated that he and Rafel were “best friends” and that they had last spoken on Thursday night.

    He added, “I’m heartbroken. I can’t cope, I can’t eat. It’s just devastating.

“When I saw their skid marks, I fervently hoped it had nothing to do with it, but as it turns out, it did.”

Through the use of CCTV and license plate recognition cameras, detectives are attempting to reconstruct the group’s movements before the accident.

The last confirmed sighting, however, occurred at 2 a.m. on Saturday, before the car was eventually located at 12:15 a.m. on Monday.

According to the police, four separate reports of missing persons were filed by desperate family members.

Eve Smith’s white BMW was removed yesterday from outside the Newport Maesglas Sports and Social Club, where the girls began their Friday night out.

They hopped into the white Volkswagen Tiguan with Rafel and Shane and drove 45 minutes to the Trecco Bay holiday park in Porthcawl, where Shane’s family reportedly owned a static caravan.

There were social media reports of an altercation at the caravan park before the group left and dropped off an unidentified man in Cardiff.

However, neighbors with whom The Sun spoke said they did not see or hear anything.

The group was last seen in Cardiff around 2 a.m. on Saturday.

Concerned family members reported them missing at 7:34 p.m., but their vehicle was not located until Sunday at midnight.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Hoborough of the Gwent Police stated, “This is a very tragic situation, and our thoughts are with the families and friends of each of the young people involved.”

“We will continue to support the investigation and ask the public not to speculate during this time.”

South Wales Police Assistant Chief Constable Jason Davies stated, “Our thoughts remain with the families and all those affected by this tragic incident.”

“Specialized officers are conducting a comprehensive investigation to determine what transpired. Family liaison officers are assisting the affected families during what must be an extremely trying time.”

As is customary in such situations, Gwent Police and South Wales Police have referred the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
