Senator Onyonka Advises President Ruto to Handle Matiang’i’s Story with Care.

Richard Onyonka of Kisii has urged President William Ruto to approach the ongoing investigation into former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i with caution.

Senator Onyonka argues that no ex-minister has ever been treated the way Matiang’i is being treated, which could tarnish the state’s reputation.

On Monday, he stated on Citizen TV’s Daybreak program, “I want to convey to William Ruto that he must handle the Matiang’i story with extreme care.”

“Because he is a Cabinet minister, and there has never been a time in the history of the Kenyan government since 1963 when a person serving in that government, particularly in the docket that Matiang’i has been serving, has been treated as he has been”

Recent developments in the investigation, according to Onyonka, indicate that the state is persecuting the former minister.

oNYONKA claimed that the police may have acted without a court order by breaking into Matiang’i’s home in Karen. He cited the incident in which police officers broke into Matiang’i’s home in Karen as evidence.

“He has been assaulted and his home has been broken into, and nobody knows if there were court orders for his arrest,” he said.

In addition, he dismissed Inspector General of Police (IG) Japhet Koome’s report that the security detail of former state officers has been reduced, stating that it has been eliminated.

Matiang’i would not leave the country without the knowledge of security agencies or the President, according to Onyonka.

“The police IG stated that he reduced Matiang’i’s security, but Matiang’i claims that all of his security was removed, and I’m inclined to believe him because he was able to travel out of the country without their knowledge,” he said.

The former secretary of state returned on Sunday after a two-week trip to the United Kingdom to attend to an “urgent private matter.”

Today at 11:00 am, Matiang’i is expected to report to the headquarters of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

He has been questioned by the DCI regarding the alleged February police raid on his residence.

The Ethics and Corruption Commission (EACC) is also investigating the former interior minister’s wealth accumulated during his 10-year tenure.
