A Country Feared by Everybody Except Kenya; Canadians Start Fleeing Haiti

Canada mirrored the actions of the United States and the European Union by conducting airlift operations to evacuate its citizens from Haiti. Meanwhile, Kenya intends to dispatch its nationals to Haiti once a stable government is established in the region.

The announcement regarding aiding Canadian citizens in fleeing Haiti was initially made by Foreign Minister Melanie Joly on Monday, March 25th.

The Canadian government declared its intention to initiate a rescue operation to assist its citizens who were stranded in Haiti.

According to reports, although Canada sent out flights, the operation didn’t proceed as intended.

Inclement weather conditions prevented the Canadian nationals from being airlifted to the nearby Dominican Republic.

Therefore, the procedure was delayed until the occurrence of reduced heavy rainfall and weakened strong winds.

The Canadians who were running away and expressing concerns for their safety were informed that the operation was halted to ensure the safety of all involved.

Canada’s choice to assist its citizens in escaping occurred seven days following the United States initiation of chartered flights for American nationals seeking refuge from the conflict-ridden country.

โ€œWe are arranging a charter flight for U.S. citizens from Cap-Haitien to the United States, assuming the security situation in Cap-Haitien remains stable,โ€ the US State Department announced on March 16.

By the way, in the past month, officials from the US government and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have reached out to President William Ruto, seeking reassurance that Kenya will fulfill its commitment to deploy security personnel to Haiti.

On March 9, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken phoned President William Ruto and received assurance that Kenya would uphold its commitment to send 1,000 police officers to Haiti as per the previous agreement.

Four days after that, Ruto was contacted again by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who pledged Ksh8.2 billion to support Kenya’s mission.

Kenyan soldiers will endeavor to emerge victorious in a conflict that neither of the world’s mightiest armies has been willing to engage in.
