All About Tanzania President Samia Suluhu’s Sh6.5m Bvlgari Watch
Tanzania has been grieving following the loss of ex-prime minister Edward Ngoyai Lowasa. He passed away at the Jakaya Heart Institute in Dar es Salaam on February 10, 2024, at 70 years old. Survived by his wife, Regina, and five children, his departure has left a profound impact
A week following his passing, the funeral ceremony took place, with Tanzania President Samia Suluhu among the notable attendees. Lowassa, who has since passed away, was laid to rest in Monduli, Arusha, over the weekend.
During the funeral service, President Suluhu was captured offering condolences to Lowassa’s widow, embracing her warmly. As they hugged, President Suluhu’s sleeve slipped back slightly, exposing a prestigious timepiece from Bvlgari, one of the leading luxury jewelry and watch brands in the world.
She wore a Bvlgari Serpenti Seduttori timepiece on her wrist, crafted from rose gold and valued at $44,200 (equivalent to Sh6,453,200 or Tsh112,489,000).
According to Bvlgari’s official website, the Serpenti watch is described as “gleaming with the refined sheen of its sparkling materials and brilliant diamonds, the Serpenti Seduttori watch makes time even more precious. Reimagining Bvlgari’s indisputably seductive icon with a striking new design, the timepiece boasts the iconic drop-shaped watch head, thinner than ever before, with a sensual, flexible bracelet featuring a hexagonal pattern inspired by the scales of a serpent. Alluring aesthetics and a nod to the glamour of high jewellery, the watch casts a seductive spell on the world of Serpenti,” read the website in part.
The timepiece includes a quartz mechanism, a 33 mm case made of 18 karat rose gold adorned with diamonds, a crown crafted from 18 karat rose gold featuring a pink rubellite cabochon-cut, a white dial, and an 18 karat rose gold bracelet embellished with diamonds. Additionally, it boasts water resistance up to 30 meters.
The Swiss-made timepiece features diamonds as its gemstones and is crafted with a rose gold band, which contributes to its high cost.

Bvlgari recommends that to maintain their timepiece, clients should delicately pull out the crown with a single click, rotate it clockwise to set the desired time, and then carefully push it back into position.
To unlock the bracelet, customers should simultaneously push the two buttons located on the sides of the deployment clasp.
To secure it, they should gently push the two bracelet ends onto the center clasp until they detect a faint clicking sound.
African leaders, including President Samia Suluhu and Kenya’s President William Ruto, are familiar with luxury. They are often seen wearing expensive watches both in private and official capacities.
President Ruto was seen wearing an Octo Finissimo Watch from the prestigious luxury brand Bvlgari on January 30, 2024, valued at Sh8,746,200.
Bvlgari describes the watch as “A true icon of the 21st century, the Octo Finissimo Automatic watch channels a rare fusion of edgy Italian design and Swiss engineering, housing the thinnest automatic movement in the world – only 2.23 mm thick.”
The single-color timepiece is crafted from satin-polished 18-karat rose gold and features a dial in a rich brown lacquer finish.
The watch also has a “ceramic insert, brown lacquered dial with a sunray finish, gold coloured indexes and hands, transparent case back, satin-polished 18 kt rose gold bracelet with folding clasp. Water-resistant up to 100 meters.”
