Exclusive: ‘Kiatu Kivue’ Star Anastacia Cautions Against Taking Up Husband’s Name
Famous gospel artist Anastacia Kakii, celebrated for her popular track “Kiatu Kivue,” has advised women against adopting their husbands’ names, expressing her own remorse and difficulties in maintaining a distinct personal brand.
In a private conversation with Gossipa2z.com, Anastacia, formerly known by her ex-husband’s surname Mukabwa, conveyed remorse for establishing her personal brand using his name.
She highlighted the significance of women preserving their unique identities and urged them not to adopt their husbands’ names in place of their own.
“What I would advise people is most women make this mistake without knowing. People might not understand it right now, but when it hits home, that is when you will understand.
You have your name; use that. Even if you get married, you will be Mrs so and so, that is okay. Stop replacing your name with your husband’s. Brand your name or use your parent’s name,” advised Anastacia.
The gospel singer discussed the difficulties she encountered while trying to establish a new identity as Anastacia Kakii since a considerable number of Kenyans were not familiar with that name.
She emphasized the influence on her ministry, prompting her choice to adopt her well-known song, “Kiatu Kivue,” as the name for her brand.

“In my ministry, it has greatly affected me. Even right now, some people don’t know which name I use. I can’t use Mukabwa because he is my ex, and that is the name I built my brand under.
Even now, rebranding is too hectic. I am currently calling myself ‘Anastacia Kiatu Kivue’ so people can understand me. They can relate to that song, but it has taken time for me to come up with a brand name,” she explained.
Anastacia conveyed her appreciation for the backing she received from Kenyans and encouraged them to extend their support to local artists.
She pointed out difficulties she faces, frequently being misidentified as a Tanzanian artist, underscoring the importance of Kenyans rallying behind their own musical talents.
“Sometimes, if I go to various places, I am well received because some people think I am a Tanzanian yet I am Kenyan. There are those seasons but Kenyans should support their own and embrace their musicians.”
In December 2032, she strolled down the aisle alongside her newlywed husband, Maurice William Juma.
