Kenyan Woman Sally Kimondo Elected as Councillor in UK

On Friday, Sally Kimondo, a Kenyan, secured victory as the Dunstable East Councillor by defeating three other candidates in the election with a total of 372 votes.

Kimondo, a social worker, assists Kenyan residents in Luton, Dunstable, and the neighboring areas. She has received acclaim in the past for advocating for the rights of Kenyan expatriates.

She campaigned under the Dunstable and Houghton Regis Labour Party banner, pledging to bring about positive societal transformations.

Kimondo earned a Social Work degree from the University of Bedfordshire and has experienced growing political success by staying committed to her political principles.

“I am a qualified senior Social Worker with a demonstrated history of working in the government administration industry. I have gained experience within the journey of a child and now based within a Safeguarding team,” she wrote on her LinkedIn profile.

Furthermore, she established and serves as the Chair of the highly acclaimed Luton, Dunstable & Surrounding Kenya Community Forum.

In her role as a councilor, she will serve as the representative for the local community, including Kenyans and other residents in the region.

“Being an effective councilor requires both commitment and hard work. Councillors have to balance the needs and interests of residents, the political party they represent, and the council,” reads part of the UK government guidelines.

She committed to addressing anti-social behavior, and Kimondo clarified that addressing this issue involves collaborating with various organizations to foster community unity.

Kimondo also pledged to tackle the fuel expenses, enhance facilities for the residents, repair lighting issues, and address potholes, among other endeavors aimed at improving the livability of Dunstable East for its inhabitants.

Every elected council member has a term of four years and has the option of being re-elected, replaced by a new candidate, or choosing to resign. If a councilor decides to step down, it triggers a by-election.

All councilors are entitled to a basic allowance.
