Law enforcement inquiries have determined that the woman previously said to have passed away by leaping from the third floor of her residence in Langata, a suburb of Nairobi, was actually murdered before her remains were disposed of behind the building where she resided.

A postmortem examination disclosed that Nelvine Museti’s demise resulted from a head injury inflicted by blunt force trauma.

It was initially believed that Ms. Museti, aged 28, had leaped from the third floor of Ascot apartments, as her body was discovered outside with blood trickling from her nose.

A loud noise was reported by neighbors at approximately 5 am, and the discovery of the body took place around 6 am on January 11, 2023.

Law enforcement officials arrived at the location following the report made by the building’s caretaker regarding the incident.

The police later went to Museti’s residence, which was unlocked, and discovered it in a state of disarray, with the balcony door left open.

In a sworn statement submitted to the Kibera Law courts, Detective Constable Johnson Wanjohi from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Langata offices reported that law enforcement discovered items such as used condoms, suggesting that Museti had been in the company of a man on the night before.

Additional items found at the residence include a vacant beer container, two glasses holding substances believed to be alcoholic beverages and bhang, along with a partially filled two-liter bottle containing a beverage.

“Preliminary investigations were conducted and established that on the night of the incident, the deceased was in the company of a man in her house where they consumed the drinks found on the table and had sexual intercourse as evidenced by the presence of used condoms,” stated Wanjohi.

The DCI has indicated that certain items have been sent to the Government Chemist for Toxicology and DNA analysis.

The detective mentioned that he was looking into a homicide case under the provisions of section 203 in conjunction with section 204 of the Penal Code.

The arrest of a police officer affiliated with the General Service Unit (GSU) at the unit’s headquarters in Ruaraka, Nairobi, resulted from forensic investigations conducted by the DCI.

Victor Otieno Ouma is presently held at Langata police station following Wanjohi’s successful petition for his detention, authorized for a period of 21 days by Senior Principal Magistrate Irene Kahuya.

The arrest of Mr. Ouma as a murder suspect was facilitated by DCI’s forensic examination of Ms. Museti’s mobile phone call records and text messages.
