Ruto appoints Francis Muthaura, Charles Nyachae to State jobs

Ambassador Francis Muthaura has returned to government roles following his appointment by President William Ruto in his recent round of appointments.

Ambassador Muthaura, who held a position during President Moi’s administration and was instrumental in the Uhuru Kenyatta and Kibaki governments, has been designated as the Chancellor of Kenyatta University for a duration of five years.

Muthaura, aged 77, was one of the six individuals identified by former ICC prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo, alongside President Ruto, as accountable for the post-election unrest in 2007/2008.

Nevertheless, the accusations against Ambassador Muthaura were dismissed in 2013 due to insufficient evidence.

The President has designated Charles Nyachae to serve as the Chairperson of the Council of Kenya School of Government for a duration of one year.

Ms. Njoki Kahika’s appointment was canceled to create an opportunity for Mr. Nyachae, who has maintained a strong alliance with the President since the 2022 election campaign.

In the previous year, Nyachae stepped down from his role as a judge in the East African Court of Justice, a position he had been appointed to by former president Uhuru Kenyatta.

The president has appointed veteran journalist Tom Mshindi as the chair of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation board in his third appointment.

Mr Mshindi was editor-in-chief of NMG, where he worked for 24 years.
