Gachagua Vows Crackdown On Illegal Gangs As He Hosts Thousands Of Mt Kenya Youth In Mathira

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday hosted at least 8,000 youth at his home in Ruguru, Mathira constituency in Nyeri

At the ceremony, Gachagua addressed several issues, among them the resurgence of the Mungiki sect and the illicit brew menace in Central Kenya

The DP celebrated that his efforts to end the consumption of illicit brew and abuse of drugs have paid, saying the 8,000 people at the ceremony were mostly those who had recovered from addiction and are now charting a new path.

“Hata sasa naona wamama wana furaha. Hapo mbeleni wamama wetu walikuwa na shida kubwa. Hawa vijana walikuwa wanalala kwa mitaro, wameopotelea kwa mitaro wamepotelea kwa pombe. Now we are building families, we are building homes. Our men are back home, taking responsibilities to take care of their wives and children,” Gachagua said.

The DP joked that now more men are no longer sleeping under beds, but rather on their beds, and their wives are happy.

The DP further said the fight against illicit brew has seen 70% success in Central Kenya, thanking the local administration and the police for helping with the reforms.

“This Christmas is the best for me. My celebration is that our families are back… We have succeeded in 70% imebaki 30%. Na hao machiefs wetu niliwaambia mambo ni mawili… chief na pombe haramu hawawezi kaa kwa location moja, lazima mmoja aondoke awache mwingine,” Gachagua noted.

The DP also delved into the Mungiki sect menace in the Central Kenya region, warning that those trying to revive the sect in the name of bringing men together will be dealt with accordingly.

Gachagua said the government is aware of some people who have tried to revive the sect by holding youth conferences, but promised that President Ruto’s administration will not yield to that.

“Hivi karibuni wanajaribu kuamka. Yule kiongozi wao alikuwa anapakwa mafuta, anapelekwa kwa tv anavalishwa 3-piece suit na anapakwa powder ati ndio tuweze kukubali yeye kama kiongozi… msikuje kuingizwa kwa hizo vikundi haramu, ambaye ni ya kukiuka sheria, ni ya kuja kufanya madhara kwa wamama wetu na wafanyibiahsra wetu,” Gachagua warned.

The DP urged the Mount Kenya youth to resist any attempts to rejoin the Mungiki sect, saying it’s a bad idea that should shunned.
