List of Presidents Who Visited Kenya in 2023

By his goal of boosting Kenya’s international standing, President William Ruto has welcomed numerous Heads of State to Nairobi this year as part of his vision.

The standout event was the first-ever Africa Climate Summit hosted at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in September, attended by more than 20 Presidents and Heads of Government.

Some of the heads of government that attended the event include; Salva Kiir Mayardit (Sudan), Sahle-Work Zewde (Ethiopia), Suluhu Samia (Tanzania), Macky Sall (Senegal), and Mohamed Al-Menfi (Libya). 

Others were; Azali Assoumani (Comoros), Julius Maada Bio (Sierra Leone), Evariste Ndayishimiye (Burundi), and Nana Okufu Addo (Ghana).

President Ruto has also hosted other Heads of Government at State House including; Lee Hsien Loong (Singapore), Fumio Kishida (Japan), and Ebrahim Raisi (Iran). 

In a significant diplomatic achievement, President Ruto welcomed King Charles and Queen Camilla in October, as well as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in May, marking notable diplomatic successes.

In addition to Heads of Government, the President has also welcomed leaders from influential government and financial organizations.

In 2023, Ruto welcomed influential figures such as Kristalina Georgieva, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and Mélanie Joly, the Canadian Foreign Minister.

In the East African area, President William Ruto received visits from all Presidents and Heads of Government as a gesture of respect during his inaugural year in office.

At the Jamhuri Day Celebrations on December 12, concerns arose due to the absence of numerous Heads of State, prompting questions about their non-attendance.

President Sahle-Work Zewde stood in for Prime Minister Abiy Mohammed of Ethiopia as other leaders from the region opted out of attending the event.
