Kenya Railways Announces New Train Services for Kisumu & Nanyuki

Kenya Railways has introduced midweek train services to Kisumu and Nanyuki ahead of the festive season.

In a statement dated Friday, the corporation noted that the Kisumu midweek train service will operate on Wednesdays and Thursdays, in addition to the usual Friday and Sunday train schedule.

The midweek train from Nairobi to Kisumu will leave the Nairobi Station on Wednesday at 6:30 pm.

Conversely, those who wish to travel from Kisumu to Nairobi will be able to catch the midweek train on Thursday at the Kisumu Station every Thursday at 6:30 pm.

As per the current price schedule, an economy ticket costs Ksh600 while a first-class ticket goes for Ksh2,000.

On the other hand, trains leaving Nairobi for Nanyuki will now operate on Tuesday and Friday. The trains will leave the Nairobi station at 9 am.

Those traveling back to Nairobi from Nanyuki will access the train at the Nanyuki Station on Wednesday and Sunday at 9 am.

First-class tickets for the route cost Ksh1,000, while economy class costs Ksh200.

Kenya Railways explained that the trains were introduced owing to the expected increased travel as Kenyans will be heading home for the Christmas and New Year festivities.

However, the transport corporation did not detail when the midweek services will end.

Occasionally, Kenyans prefer trains because they are more economically friendly as compared to buses which charge twice as high during the festivities.

However, the trains take much longer time than the buses and planes.ย
