Serena Williams Reacts to Will Smith’s Oscars Snub

Serena Williams is speaking out about Will Smith’s Oscars slap nearly a year later.

Will Smith portrayed Serena Williams’ father, Richard Williams, in the biopic King Richard.

Serena was asked about the King Richard star’s outburst at the Oscars, which saw him slap Chris Rock over a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, on CBS Mornings on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

The slap ruined the Williams family’s celebration.

Serena and her sister Venus produced the biographical sports drama, which tells the story of Richard Williams, the tennis coach and father of the superstar athletes.

“I thought it was such an incredible film, and I feel like there was an incredible film after that with Questlove that got a little overshadowed,” Williams said. ‘But I also feel like I’ve been in a position where I’ve been under a lot of pressure and made a lot of mistakes, and I’m the type of person who says, ‘I’ve been there. I made a blunder. It’s not the end of the world,” says the author.

‘We’re all imperfect, and we’re all human, and let’s just be kind to each other,’ Williams concluded. That is frequently overlooked.’

These are Williams’ first remarks about the March 27, 2022 slap, which resulted in Smith’s ban from the Oscars and Academy events for ten years.
