CS Moses Kuria Absent from the Gachagua Cabinet Meeting

On Thursday, hours after President William Ruto reshuffled his cabinet, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua hosted a Cabinet Committee meeting at his Karen residence.

Eleven cabinet secretaries attended the meeting, which focused on examining ministerial objectives as the government strives to fulfill campaign promises.

Moses Kuria, cabinet secretary for the Public Service, was conspicuously absent. As Gachagua convened the meeting, Kuria was launching an industrial park in Garissa County.

Earlier in the day, Kuria pointed the needle at DP Gachagua, accusing him of losing the Trade docket after being reassigned to the Public Service Ministry by President William Ruto.

The Deputy President explained in a statement sent to PoliticalPulseChat by Gachagua’s office that the meeting decided to expedite the implementation of government initiatives.

“We are keen on faster and more effective implementation of the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda as directed by President William Ruto.

“At Karen Official Residence today, I chaired a Cabinet Sub-Committee to align our inter-ministerial targets and objectives for the quicker realization of the President’s agenda,” he stated.

Kithure Kindiki (Interior), Njuguna Ndungu (Treasury), Eliud Owalo (ICT), Susan Nakhumicha (Health), Ezekiel Machogu (Education), and Kipchumba Murkomen (Transport) were among the CS who attended the meeting.

Environment CS Soipan Tuya, Labor CS Florence Bore, Defence CS Aden Duale, and Cooperatives CS Simon Chelugui were also present.

Only one of the newly appointed Cabinet Secretaries, Peninah Malonza, was present at the meeting.

Malonza was transferred from the Tourism portfolio to the East Africa Community (EAC) Ministry, a position formerly held by Rebecca Miano, who is now responsible for Trade and Investments.

At the time of publication, the reasons why the reshuffled CSs did not attend the meeting were unclear; however, it has been reported that a number of them, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Miano, are out of the country on official duty.

The current location of Tourism CS Alfred Mutua is unknown. Mutua was removed from the Foreign Affairs file that Musalia received.

Public Service CS Moses Kuria speaks at the Qatar Economic Forum in Doha, Qatar, on May 24, 2023.
