Ruto Lands New Job
President William Ruto has today joined the Global Centre of Adaptation (GCA) Advisory Board, an organization that promotes climate change solutions worldwide.
This was after Ruto received an invitation from Ban Ki-moon, the 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations and GCA CEO Patrick Verkooijen, to join the organization.
The President accepted the invitation during a meeting with Verkooijen at the State House, where the two also came up with a plan to mobilize the financial commitments for climate adaptation made during the recent Africa Climate Summit (ACS).
To this effect, the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program (AAAP) Country Compacts, initiated by Ruto, will bolster climate adaptation efforts in Africa by outlining investment priorities and strategies.ALSO
This will be done on a country-by-country basis depending on the needs of the country.
“African governments, businesses, and communities have paid heavily for climate-related destruction and disruption, and have already invested heavily in adaptation action, but we need stronger international partnerships to support adaptation more than ever before,” the President asserted.

“The Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program, the world’s largest adaptation program resulting from collaboration between GCA, the University of Nairobi, the African Development Bank, and the African Union Commission, is the best vehicle we have to mobilize additional funding.”
Ruto emphasized the importance of working together, an ideology he had championed during the ACS, arguing that it would promote the generation and fulfillment of comprehensive climate change adaptation responses.
“I look forward to working closely with Professor Verkooijen and the Board to build on the US$6.7 billion that the AAAP has already invested in resilient climate projects in 27 countries since 2021,” he remarked.
In addition, the President announced the establishment of GCA’s regional headquarters in Nairobi in 2025.
President Ruto will be sitting on GCA’s board alongside, Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu, and Senegal’s President Macky Sall, both recently appointed, among other leaders.
The three heads of state’s roles include providing strategic guidance, policy advice, networking, and providing oversight to the GCA.
