Ruto Makes Major Changes to UDA Party Structure Ahead of Elections

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party of President William Ruto has proposed changes to the party’s structure and leadership.

Deputy governors will be added to the County Government Caucus of the party, as proposed by Vice Chair Omar Hassan at the National Governing Council (NGC) meeting conducted at Bomas of Kenya.

Hassan stated that the objective of the action is to involve the deputy governors in the affairs and administration of the ruling party.

On the other hand, the party has noted that county chairperson candidates will not have running companions to ensure gender parity within the party structure.

The first runners-up of the opposing gender will now automatically assume the position of vice-chairperson of the county.

“Currently, there are only 7 officials at the Constituency Committee. We are increasing it to 13,” Hassan remarked.

The officials of the constituency Committee will consist of a chairperson, secretary, treasurer, and three representatives of youth, women, and people with disabilities (PLWD).

The seven designated constituency leaders will automatically join the National Delegates Conference (NDC), the party’s highest decision-making body.

Ruto, on the other hand, urged party members who aspire to occupy positions within the party to prepare for the elections scheduled for later in the year.

The Head of State clarified that the governing party was conducting the primaries in advance to mitigate any potential repercussions of the mini-elections.

He added that no candidate would be favored in the party’s elections, noting that the 7,2 million members will have the ultimate say on who will serve as officials.

“Even as the party leader, nobody has chosen me. The members of the party have not decided and they must have a say. Some people are saying that this is not the right time and that we should wait. This is the time.”

“We cannot have the elections close to the General Election. Won’t we find challenges? ” he posed.
