‘A’ Student Who Moved To US Dies Under Unclear Circumstances

A Kenyan family is seeking assistance from well-wishers after their son, who had received a scholarship to study in the United States, perished under mysterious circumstances last Wednesday.

Ben Kiprotich, who obtained an A on the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), matriculated at the University of Nairobi in 2016 to earn a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering.

His academic prowess was immediately recognized, and he was subsequently awarded a scholarship to pursue his engineering studies in the United States.

In 2017, the Kiprotich family said goodbye to their son as he began his academic journey in the West.

The young man never returned to Kenya but remained in continuous contact with his family.

“He has never gotten a chance to come home. Recently, he promised to come home this December,” the father told the press.

“Unfortunately, he met his demise recently on Wednesday last week.”

The family is still reeling from the shock of Ben’s untimely death, especially given that he was in excellent health.

They remember him fondly as a diligent and loving child who pursued success with determination despite confronting numerous obstacles.

Ben’s father stated that his son resided in Alabama at the time of his passing. However, he did not reveal whether Ben had graduated already.

The family has revealed that American authorities have completed the postmortem examination, but they had not received the results as of the publication date of this article.

“We are in the dark. My brother was not sick and even his friends in America do not know what happened,” Kiprotich’s sister remarked.

The family is presently facing a bill of Ksh4.5 million for the return of their relative’s body to Kenya.

“We are begging friends, well-wishers, county and national governments to help us bring our boy home to rest,” the family pleaded.
