    Gonorrhea hits Kenya: What You Should Know

    • Antimicrobial resistance in gonorrhea has increased rapidly in recent years, limiting treatment options.
    • In 2020, there were 82 million new cases of gonorrhea.
    • The WHO African and Western Pacific Regions had the highest number of gonorrhea cases in 2020.
    • The majority of those affected are between the ages of 15 and 49.
    • gonorrhea superbugs or super gonorrhea are drug-resistant gonorrheas with high-level resistance to the current recommended treatment for gonorrhea (ceftriaxone and azithromycin) but also including resistance to penicillin, sulphonamides, tetracycline, fluoroquinolones, and macrolides.

    Men with gonorrhea may experience the following signs and symptoms:

    • Urination is excruciatingly painful.
    • Pus-like discharge from the manhood’s tip.

    The following are the signs and symptoms of gonorrhea infection in women:

    • Vaginal discharge has increased.
    • Urination is excruciatingly painful.
    • Vaginal bleeding between periods, for example, after va*inal intercourse.
    • Pain in the abdomen or pelvis.
