I was misquoted! Kalonzo denies recognising Ruto as President

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has refuted claims that Azimio recognizes President William Ruto as a legitimate President.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Kalonzo said his words were taken out of context regarding the legitimacy of the current regime.

“I have noticed that a section of the media has in the last few hours misquoted my recent statement on the state of affairs in our country. Particularly on the legitimacy of the current regime,” he said.

He said through the bipartisan talks they will be able to have an audit of the 2022 presidential elections and settle the matter on the legitimacy of the Kenya Kwanza government.

Kalonzo added that there has been political goodwill from both the Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja coalition on the bipartisan talks.

“We also encourage Kenyans to participate in this important process by sending their memoranda within the given timeline as recently advertised in the dailies. May God bless Kenya.”

Speaking on Saturday, Kalonzo said Azimio recognizes Ruto as the President because of his stance to keep the bi-partisan talks between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio going.

“We are going to call everybody to order. And nobody is going to stop these discussions. On that part, I must congratulate the President because he has put his foot down anasema mazungumzo iendelee,” Kalonzo said.

“Na kwa sababu ya kuonyesha msimamo huo, hata na sisi tunazidi kumtambua (And for taking that stance, we on our part continue to recognize him).”

His sentiments did not sit well with some leaders in Azimio as Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua dismissed the remarks.

While reacting to a publication quoting Kalonzo as having said Azimio recognizes Ruto as President, the Narc Kenya leader denied the sentiments.

“Not true,” Karua said.

On Saturday, Kalonzo said Azimio has no problem with the President, other than being shocked by the remarks by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who keeps dismissing the talks.

Gachagau has been insisting that the talks will yield no fruits.

“We have no issue with anyone, but we have a problem with some people’s remarks. Like the Deputy President’s remarks at a funeral in Ukambani. He spoke words that shocked the people of Machakos, some were just staring at him in disbelief,” Kalonzo said.
