Wamatangi’s Dash to Safety At Kiambu Event After Angry Residents Outcry

Wednesday, the governor of Kiambu, Kimani Wamatangi, abruptly halted a bursary distribution ceremony after residents protesting the exercise’s perceived injustice disrupted it.

Wamatangi presided over the distribution of bursary checks to primary, secondary, and university students at a time when demands for the governor’s removal were intensifying.

Some Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) have called for the impeachment of the county’s first-term governor because he mismanaged the county, while others have accused him of demeaning county legislators.

Wamatangi was whisked away by his bodyguards amid the ensuing pandemonium, putting an end to the exercise that was intended to provide students with tuition money before the start of the school year.

“We want the Governor to deliver the checks to our County Assembly members so they can distribute the bursaries in our vicinity.

A resident lamented, “We shouldn’t have to walk several kilometers to get to Kiambu town for a distribution exercise that could easily be conducted near our homes.”

The MCAs had threatened to impeach Governor Wamatangi for failing to collaborate closely with them to serve the Kiambu County residents.

Wednesday, August 30, the Ward Representatives asserted that the Executive was mismanaging the country by ignoring the concerns of the people.

However, Governor Wamatangi noted that the MCAs have been pressuring him to grant them implausible bribes and political favors.

The Kikuyu Council of Elders has requested that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua mediate between Wamatangi and the MCAs.

Wachira Kiago, the national chairman of the Council, stated on Wednesday, August 30, that Gachagua is in the greatest position to unite the MCAs of Wamatangi and Kiambu, as he is the current leader of the region.

As part of his responsibilities, Kiago stated that he mediates between the opposing factions alongside his counsel colleagues.

“This is a crucial issue that must be addressed immediately by regional leaders. Kiago asserted that we are not merely bystanders, but rather essential figures who can promote harmony.
